Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs)

A big use of electricity in homes is lighting. Consider some ways you can save money by changing habits when it comes to using the lights in your home. Did you think of turning off lights in rooms that are not being used? How about using only the lights you need for the tasks that you are doing, instead of lighting the whole room?

Most light bulbs used in homes are incandescent bulbs, which were invented by Thomas Edison over 100 years ago. Their design has changed very little since then. These bulbs are not energy efficient. Have you ever noticed how a light bulb gets hot after it’s been on for a while? According to ENERGY STAR® about 90% of the energy used by incandescent bulbs is given off as heat rather than light, and that’s a lot of wasted energy.

Instead of using traditional incandescent light bulbs, consider using a newer kind of light bulb, the Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL). Unlike the usual fluorescent bulb, which is shaped like a long tube, a CFL can screw directly into most lamps and ceiling fixtures. CFLs are a little more expensive than incandescent bulbs, but they can last up to ten times longer and use 75% less energy.

LimeLite® Night Light

The LimeLite Night Light is designed to replace your current energy draining night lights. It uses about 1/100th of the power used by a standard 7-watt night light and only costs about $0.02 a year to operate. The soothing glow should not disturb your sleep or your night vision. It is great to use in your child’s room or in a hallway or bathroom so you can see where you are walking at night without turning on a light.
